Dr. Peter Vinella, Affiliate

Dr. Peter Vinella has more than 25 years of experience in the financial industry as a consultant and an executive with major financial institutions. His areas of expertise include trading and investment management, risk management, quantitative analyses, operations, trading and investment-related accounting, technology (including software development), trust administration, and fund administration. He has first-hand experience with a wide variety of investment products including equities, debt instruments, repurchase and securities lending, listed and over-the-counter derivatives, credit default swaps, commercial and consumer loans, and structured credit products such as credit default swaps (CDOs) and mortgage-backed securities (MBS). He has also developed business plans and strategic marketing plans for a number major financial institutions and vendors including JP Morgan, Daiwa Securities, Smith Barney, ADP, Sun Microsystems, Perot Systems, and Sybase. Mr. Vinella has been a testifying expert on more than a dozen major lawsuits since October 2009. During this time, he has logged more than 150 hours of testimony and depositions and authored numerous reports and rebuttals. The matters involved a wide-range of issues including securities and derivatives valuation, algorithmic trading and investments in general, commercial lending, loan servicing and administration, securitization, monoline and mortgage insurance, repo and securities lending, trust and fund administration, hedge fund customs and practices, regulatory compliance, broker-dealer customs and practices, and custody.

Further, Mr. Vinella has testified before the U.S. Congress, had a white paper read into the congressional record, and worked with the General Accountability Office (GAO) on a number of topics including derivatives legislation, the vulnerability of the U.S. financial system to terrorist attack, the Troubled Asset Relief Program, and securitization.

Prior to his work in the financial industry, Mr. Vinella was an assistant professor in the Mathematics and Computer Science department at California State University, Hayward, as well as a junior research fellow at NASA. Peter holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of California at Berkeley.
